First, two more photos of the new bed - after the clean up. I'm quite pleased with the outcome. The room is rather small, so the newly opened-up floor space makes a huge difference.
The mattress we had (aka The Secret Mattress, for visitors) was about 10 cm short. That was not good! But we came up with a great solution: we stuffed the headpiece of his old IKEA bed into the crack and now he has a wonderful head bumper and it's almost not visible. In any case, it looks intentional! Best solutions, those - cost nothing and work great.
I also turned the shelf units around and this opened up even more space. Very nice.
Earlier that day, Leah tried to escape in an unwatched moment. The wild, it was calling me!
But we caught up with her, and then we fed her, stuffed her into her sleeping sack, she barfed on it, and all is well.
Good night.
We have two similar beds. The older one looks isn't quite that high, only 3 steps. But enough room underneath it for a play "cubby hole" when boys were younger, and now as a storage for a couple of older single-bed mattresses used for sleep-overs, etc. The other one was bought somewhat later and is a double-bed size and quite a bit higher. Enough room under it for a useful desk and set of desk shelves. Both boys loved the high beds, and the useful space underneath them.
