Jacob started it. He had a croup attack in the night from Saturday to Sunday - a mild one, as these things go. He didn't need the shower treatment, but he slept fitfully for the rest of the night and woke up congested and sick-ish. It was a simple common cold but you know how miserable that makes one feel. Next, Leah started sneezing and coughing, then yesterday Alan was so congested he could hardly breathe, and today David ran a slight temperature.
So, we took a few days off. Me, I'm a bit antsy by now but the kids are doing better, and I think tomorrow we can resume our touristy duties and look at things.
How did we spend those last days? Well, there was a lot of reading -- The Mysterious Benedict Society as a Read-Aloud, David is currently devouring The Hunger Games, Alan is on book two of Artemis Fowl. While the older boys are reading, the little ones are crafting. Out of nothing and paper and cardboard, they created lots of German paper flags (European Soccer Cup, anyone?), postcards for their grandparents, and all sorts of contraptions, including some boxy airplanes. We also made friendship bracelets of all kinds and colors.
I asked Leah and Jacob to hold up their planes so I could take a photo. What do you think? Is she model-worthy material, or what? It's so funny how she totally marches to her own beat. She admires and loves her brothers fiercly but she does what she wants, including wearing dresses and nail polish. She also has no fear.
(And her plane flew, too! Pretty well, actually. That's it right there, in the upper left corner.)
Fabulous! Way to turn a potentially cranky, miserable time into a quietly creative (healing!) time... you rock, Claudia!
P.S. love the planes, Leah's looks like it has eyes, nose and a big bushy mustache - too wonderful!
