The trash really gets to me.  There are waste removal trucks but they don't come to individual houses, they only collect the trash in the dumpsters.  Those dumpsters are omnipresent, in every neighborhood, and you take your trash there and dump it in.  Theoretically. In reality, people dump their trash in the general vicinity of the dumpsters, and those are the public minded ones.  Others just leave their trash wherever they stand and go.  So the garbage collectors come, and often or not, they only take the trash in the dumpsters, not the acres of trash strewn about.

Every once in a while, someone will lose their patience with this, and end it all by setting the trash on fire.

Right.  All that plastic, all those chemicals, all that dirt, going up in flames and finding its way directly into my children's lungs.  Delightful.

I'm glad I found an organization that is trying to do something about this.  Kudos to them!

Pushing back gently

Julia from Uncommon Misconception is a woman I admire deeply - and just you know, she's from Texas and raised Republican, and Christian.  And I like her! She's smart, funny, a great writer, and very courageous.  She has gone through horrible pain and she has the strength to stand up and tell her story .  In times like these I find that eminently important.   

In her latest post she gets a bit worked up about Ann Coulter's most recent "book".   (I guess you'd call it a book since it has pages, and a cover, and there are words printed in it.  If not for the words, I'd call it a fire log.  Or a door stopper.  Or just trash.  It's a waste of trees, in any case.  That's also why I'm not linking to it.  Not worth it, really.) 

Ann Coulter is a wingnut and I can't decide whether she's just insane or whether she just doesn't care and does what she does for the money and the notoriety.  Probably the latter, and that's the worse of the two possibilities.  She caters to the 10-15% of seriously disturbed people in the US (seriously disturbed on this topic, I mean).  She found a niche and she makes money out of it.  I find that unresponsible and almost treacherous, as she is a woman herself.  (I think she is.  I'm not sure.)
